A Band Worthy of Your Attention #2: Washed Out

    Friday, March 19th, 2010

Yesterday blog GorillavsBear posted the newest song from jumbled and distorted lo-fi Georgia band Washed Out. From his Tour Only album, “Untitled” reminds me, an impatient New Yorker on the brink of spring, of summertime. Ernest Greene, who is Washed Out, currently has the EP Life of Leisure via Mexican Summer Records, a tape, Washed Out, released through Charleston, SC’s Mirror Universe Tapes, and a 7″ available through Lovepump United Records that features Washed Out remixing Brooklyn-band Small Black’s “You’ll See It” on Side A and Small Black remixing Washed Out “Despicable Dogs” on Side B.

For our Baltimore readers – check out Washed Out at Floristree this Wednesday, March 10. You can find out more here.

A Band Worthy of Your Attention #1: Twin Sister

    Friday, March 19th, 2010

Twin Sister via their Flickr hosted at www.twinsistermusic.com

Twin Sister is a lovely New York four-piece with a fuzzy folk-pop aesthetic and a songwriting style ambitious enough to sound original, yet with enough restraint to remain engaging. The clear stand-out from their first release, Vampires with Dreaming Kids, is the anthemic “Ginger,” with its driving rhythm section and waves of shimmering dream-pop guitar.

You can download Vampires with Dreaming Kids for free at Twin Sister’s website; be sure to check out their tour page as well, as they are likely coming to a town near you. They will also be releasing a new record, Color Your Life, via Infinite Best Recordings some time this year.
